History

1895-1914: hanging
1915-1972: death penalty never used

North Dakota abolished the death penalty for most crimes in 1915. Only treason and murder committed by an inmate already serving a life sentence remained as capital crimes. No one was executed under that law. Only 8 people have been executed in North Dakota's history, the last in 1905.
